UK Election map 2010 (Master)

The election map comes as a kit in Adobe Illustrator CS2 format.

It is constructed in layers and views -- there are 11 layers and 14 views. All the artwork can be modified to suit your house style.

It is recommended that you have the Layers window open on your desktop and set the cursor (arrow) keys to 400 points. CMD K will take you to the preferences menu where you can set the Keyboard Increment to "400 pt"

The Views: Each view takes you to a geographical area of the UK -- Central England, West Midlands, etc. There is also a Full View, showing all the views.

Each view uses two layers -- the Special layer and the Constituencies layer.

Special layer: This is locked and gives instructions and hints.
For instance, if you are in Central England it hints that this area covers Cambridgeshire and parts of Derbyshire. It also tells you how far to move the coloured constituencies to position them in register within the main map -- up 400pts, left 400pts.

Constituencies layer: This is the active layer to colour the constituencies.
This can be done in two ways depending on how fast you need to work...

1. Using the Selection tool: A single click on the constituency name highlights both the constituency and its name. Hitting the "i" key selects the eyedropper. Use the eyedropper to click on a party colour and colour the constituency. Hit the "v" key to return to the Selection tool

2. Using the Eyedropper tool: This is faster! With the Eyedropper active, hold down the CMD-OPT and double click on a constituency name. This selects the constituency and its name. Because you are in the Eyedropper you can instantly pick a colour. With the CMD-OPT click anywhere on the white background -- everything is deselected and you're ready to pick the next constituency.

When an area has been completed, select all the constituencies -- excluding the names -- and move using the cursor keys in jumps of 400pts.

When the graphic is complete simply delete the Special layer and the unwanted text on the Constituencies layers.

NOTE: The views were created to be used on a 30-inch Cinema display -- if you are using a 24-inch display you may have to zoom out one click (CMD-OPT-Spacebar-Click) or pan to position each zone in the centre of you screen.

Have fun.
